Detoxification Diet and Colon Cleansing – Part 2

Continued from Part 1 of Detoxification Diet and Colon Cleansing

Things you need to do to effect change by cleaning your colon with a detoxification diet are…

  • Make sure that your fiber intake is always 60% of what is on your plate, without any sauces or butter (that would constitute part of your fat intake). Most health professionals recommend that an adult needs 30 grams of fiber a day though most of us are lucky to incorporate 12 gram daily into our diet. Gradually increase the amount of fiber so that your body doesn’t react badly. Most of the high-fiber foods contain loads of good things like vitamins and minerals that are essential to good digestive function.
  • As with anything we do, variety is the spice of life. Our diets should be nutritional, healthy, balanced and varied, so ring the changes with different types of fiber. Insoluble fiber is the indigestible cellulose contained within plants that provides the roughage and bulk that helps prevent constipation. Soluble fiber, found in wholegrains and fruit pectin, helps prevent cholesterol and heart disease. Resistant starch, starch that isn’t digested – found in grains and some starchy foods that have been cooked and cooled like potatoes, provides food for beneficial bacteria in the gut.
  • Limit meat at mealtimes to 25% to 30% of what is on your plate when it is the only protein, sauces rich in eggs or dairy products provide protein so avoid them on the same plate as meat. Protein in an adult’s diet is to provide cell repair when the body is at rest, in children it is to help them grow. Protein can be found in nuts and cereals too. Fill your plate with more fruit or vegetables and salads that have their freshness enhanced by a squeeze of lemon or lime juice rather than smothered in a mayonnaise based dressing.
  • Don’t try to cut down on sugar – instead – completely eliminate it! Limit yourself to products that are natural. Ask yourself if the caveman could have caught it and you’ll be able to avoid the temptations of coffee, sodas, alcohol, canned goods etc.
  • Of course one of the most important keys to an effective detox diet is to always hydrate by drinking plenty of pure water.

With everything brought together, including your will power of course, you can clean your colon by incorporating many sensible elements of a detoxification diet on a daily basis.
