Questions About Colon Cleansers For Weight Loss

Ruth asks…
Is there an inexpensive over the counter colon cleanser that is also good for weight loss?
I’ve seen the ones here online that are very expensive I was just wondering what else is available.

Ellen answers:
Colon cleansers are a waist of money.
It’s a new (strange)fad.
You will lose a few pounds the first time and thats it. Just type in “colon cleansers” (with the quotes) on yahoo search.
I think the very 1st link has some reviews from scientists that say there harmful over time.
Do it right…. Eat right, exercise.

David asks…
colon cleansers for weightloss???
Has anyone used the colon cleansers for weight loss?
Did it work?

Ellen answers:
Once again with the colon cleansing and detox fad. Please do some serious research before posting these questions. This topic is frequently arising.
Once again, WATER is the best nutrient / agent needed for the body to “detox” and “cleanse” itself. With plenty of water, the liver can function properly to detox the body while the digestive system can function properly to cleanse the colon and digestive tract.

Ellen answers:
Sorry, but colon cleansing is a complete and total waste of time and money – and it can be dangerous.
The human colon does NOT accumulate fecal material. All the ads that say you can flush out 5 pounds or 10 pounds, or whatever of stuck material are garbage. The muscles in the colon are constantly in motion pushing the contents down the line. If fecal material ever really got stuck, you would have a serious medical problem.
Enemas and laxatives can cause a very fast weight loss, but it is ALL an illusion, because all you have done is emptied the contents of the colon, as soon as you start to eat, then the colon will contain the waste products again – and the same weight will be there.
Overuse of either of those can lead to a dependence on them – so you will have to be using them forever. That is not a good situation to be in. Overuse can cause severe disruptions in the body’s balance of sodium and potassium. Those are critical elements in maintaining proper body functions, and a serious imbalance can be fatal (really – people have died from this!).
Save your money and change the foods you eat instead, more fruits and vegetables, more fiber, fewer carbohydrates.

I recently Heard About how Colon Cleanser Helps With Weight Loss Because We Have 10-30 Pound Of Waste Build Up So I Would Like To Know Has Any one Tried It And If So What Was The Out Come?….How much weight did you loose?…how fast did you loose weight? and what colon cleansing product did you use? and where to get it? i perfer over the counter at a pharmacy and not online(thanx) or with any other suggestions please feel free to add that in =) thanx for reading and answering

Ellen answers:
Jim P is correct. To expand on his reasoning: Colon cleanser kills most of your normal intestinal flora; active, living bacteria that provide a necessary service to you. They produce vitamins that we lack in our diets as well as serve as competition for other bacteria that can seriously cause trouble in your body (e.g. Salmonella, Shigella, etc). Killing these useful pro-biotic bacteria allows other vicious bacteria to overproduce; leading to diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
This also doesn’t address the “lose weight” idea since the 3-5 lbs you may lose from your colon won’t be permanent.

Betty asks…
what happens when you use he colon cleansers?
do you have to plan on living in the bathroom for a few days? does it really help with weight loss?

Ellen answers:
No, but you should be around one just in case ![]()
Colon cleansers don’t help you loose that much weight but it might help. Make sure to stick it out for all the days that it says to and only use it every few months or years.
