Your Questions About Cleanse Colon With Food

David asks…

How can I cleanse my colon?

I’m very… in nice words, chubby. I’ve heard that cleansing you colon will help you lose weight and I was wondering how I could do that WITHOUT any pills or medicines or foods. Like are there any types of food like spinach or something. I don’t want to buy activia or anything like that because my mom gets really annoyed when I bring up my weight or anything to do with it. So I was wondering if there are any special “miracle” foods that clean colons.

Ellen answers:

Firstly, don’t buy into all that cr*p on TV about carrying around fecal matter in your colon. If humans had that much sitting in their intestines they’d die from sepsis.(poisoning the blood stream)

If you have regular bowel movements (at least once a day) you are fine. It doesn’t hurt to up your fiber intake as most Westernized countries don’t eat enough. 30 to 40 grams of fiber a day is good.

Insoluble fiber is found in whole wheat, wheat bran, vegetables such as cauliflower and green beans and the skins of fruits and root vegetables. Insoluble fiber helps remove toxins from your colon and balance intestine acidity. It also helps move waste through your intestines and bowel.

Some folks purchase psyllium fiber to mix in water or put into soups and such, but if you have the above foods available (and in the list below)you don’t need to go to the added expense.

And fiber makes you feel full thus lessening your caloric intake. (don’t skimp on nutrition tho, if nothing else take a multi vitamin tablet every day to keep healthy)

Helen asks…

A question about colon cleansing and detox?

Why are so many people sceptic about colon detox when it has helped so many people with their health? In recent years the Western world has developed some bad eating habits. The caveman would eat things like meat, fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts……all natural healthy foods. But in recent decades the Western world eats things like milk, gluten, dairy products, fish and chips, pizza, fatty fried foods, chocolate, ice cream etc! No wonder the increase of bowel diseases has increased. When unhealthy foods are eaten on a regular basis the colon can get impacted and will require a treatment to clear out all the crap you have been putting into your body. The caveman would not need a detox because all his/her life they would have eaten healthy natural foods.

Colon cleansing has helped lots of people, so why are there so many arrogant people who try to get people away from colon cleansing?

Ellen answers:

I know what you mean about the diet, but a colonic irrigation is a glorified enema, and they should NEVER be used without medical supervision, i.e. In cases of extreme constipation. If done on a regular basis, except in certain medical situations where the colon simply doesn’t work on its own, the colon becomes dependent on it and eventually stops working altogether. Leave Well Alone; if there’s a problem, go to the doctor.

Charles asks…

How do you do a colon cleanse?

How do you do a colon cleanse? NOT with any pills! I know about eating vegetables and fruits but for how long? and just overall how to do a colon cleanse step by step without pills and food wise can i bring it to school in a lunchbox? (in Junior high) Thanks :)

Ellen answers:

Unfortunately the whole concept of detox is an urban myth. It is based solely on the irrational rants of constipated Edwardians who refused to eat vegetables as the considered them food only fit for the lower classes to consume. As a result they had little option but to spend their time taking laxatives and purgatives and giving themselves enemas. Provided you have not already done too much damage to your body, your liver and kidneys will deal withe problem of removing toxins from your body, as that was what they were designed to do. After that, tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life and you can start afresh.

George asks…

Would a liver cleanse as well as a colon cleanse take away any cravings for sugar?

I was wondering with any cleanse would it take away any cravings for junk food.

If so I was going to do one this weekend but I would like to know health perspectives of others!

Ellen answers:

There is no therapeutic effect to any colon cleanse or liver cleanse regimen. This is all a marketing ploy. I am a nurse and I work in the Gastroenterology Field. Any Gastro doctor will tell you it’s a waste of time and money.

Mark asks…

What’s the deal with getting a colon cleanse? Would it be worth the money or is just a fad?

I heard that the average person has anywhere from 5 to 15 pounds of fecal matter build up inside their colon! (YUCK) and that a colon cleansing can get rid of that. Is that true or just junk science?

Also, if a colon cleansing is worth the money, do you have to go to a doctor to get one done or can you buy something at a drug store or health food store and do it yourself?

Thanks for any help and / or advice.

Ellen answers:

Colon cleansing is well worth it. I was skeptical when I first tried it, but trust me, you will feel so much better. Doctors tend to frown on this kind of thing because it has more to do with natural medicine. There are natural clinics you can go to to have it done (colonic), or you can find pills at a natural health store. Here is some info.
