Your Questions About Colon Cleansing Herbs

Chris asks…

Has anyone ever tried blessed herbs colon cleansing?

What do you think? And what was better ginger or peppermint? Also, what changes did you notice after going through the process?

Ellen answers:

I just clear out normally every morning.

Susan asks…

Is senna safe to take, along with other colon cleansing herbs, while breastfeeding?

Please only answer if you know what you’re talking about, no opinions please. I’m only looking for factual information. Thanks!!

Ellen answers:

No you cannot take Senna while breastfeeding. It can cause severe diarrhea in your baby. Please research this on the net before you decide to take anything while nursing–even herbal supplements. If you have problems with constipation try to drink more water and caffeine-free fluids.

Laura asks…

What herbs cleanse your colon?

A Colon cleansing herb is what i’m looking for.
Something I can get at a Herb Store not order online
Any herbs you know of?
anything i can boil in water??

Ellen answers:

Colon cleansing is unnatural, unnecessary, potentially dangerous, quack nonsense.

From Wiki:
“No scientific evidence supports the alleged benefits of colon cleansing. The bowel itself is not dirty and barring drugs or disease, cleans itself naturally without need for assistance. Some types of colon cleansing present potential hazards; the equipment used during colon cleansing has caused damage to the rectum in a small number of individuals, and caused amoebiasis when improperly sterilized. Certain enema preparations have been associated with heart attacks and electrolyte imbalances. Frequent colon cleansing may interfere with the proper functioning of the colon and can lead to dependence on laxatives or enemas to defecate. Some herbs used may also interact with or reduce the effectiveness of prescription drugs.”

Mandy asks…

are the claims of BLESSED HERBS COLON CLEANSE that their products cleans the colon for wellness true?

BLESSED HERBS COLON CLEANSE is selling their products based on the claim that (a) it comes from natural sources (b) that it can cleanse the colon of waste which has stayed in the colon for a long time (c) that it has no side effects.
is their a medical basis for these claims?

Ellen answers:

These claims are nonsense.

First, the claim that because its a natural product its therefore good for you is silly. After all some of the strongest poisons out there are natural products for example cyanide.

Second, if you are eating a balanced diet with a good amount of fiber and plenty of water your colon will cleanse itself every day or so without any help.

Third, colon cleansing could cause illness. Your colon absorbs water and sodium from food/feces as it passes through it. This process helps maintain your body’s fluid and electrolyte balance. So speeding up that process by colon-cleansing can cause dehydration and metabolic imbalances. Also, if you do this (colon cleansing) over a long period of time you can even develop health problems such as anemia, malnutrition and heart failure.

Charles asks…

I took a herbal colon cleanse that contains 9 herbs that combined equal 425mg.?

One of those herbs is Valerian root. I took 5 Monday night, 3 Tuesday morning and 2 Tuesday night to finally get relief, however now I have a bigger concern. I have a drug test on Thursday and now discovered that valerian root could cause a false positive? Am I safe?

Ellen answers:

10 in 2 days??!!

Get a grip! You don’t need these at all, never mind that amount!

You’re very unlikely to register anything on a drugs test but you have to stop such a dangerous and unnecessary procedure. See a doctor if there’s something wrong with you. Colon cleansing is a well known scam.
