Your Questions About Human Parasites Video

Chris asks…
Do you think humans are parasites on the Earth?
I have done a great deal of research on the above question, and I am convinced that it is true. However, I would like to hear the opinions of others.
Please copy and paste this link (1-minute video clip) to further illustrate my point:

Ellen answers:
Yes, we cause war, diease, death, and just all out destruction to the world! We’re no better than any animal! Fuck the human race!

Sandra asks…
Does anyone notice a glimpse of the future when seeing mother nature killing off its own?
Ive recently noticed more and more videos popping up of parasites taking over these insects and controlling them by taking over there brain functions. One that really got me was an ant was affected with a parasite and eventually died. The ant started sprouting a plant-like stem from it body and released a deadly pollen to further spread itself. What if that happend with humans? A movie in the 80′s depicted this very thing..Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

Ellen answers:
This is very similar to news articles regarding dolphins and whales that have beached themselves, and animals that are showing signs of homosexuality. I am not by any means against homeosexuality, but it could eventually lead to natural extinction, and therefore is a glimpse into the future. On another note, humans are part of nature too, and we have been destroying ourselves and our planet since before the industrial revolution. If the answers are laid before us, and we see what is happening, what is it that we are supposed to do?
It’s almost as if we are destined….

Donna asks…
Classroom short videos from the 70`s and early 80s?…?
In gradeschool in the 70s and early 80s the teacher would play these short films that for some reason or other have stuck with me. They were only like 5 to 15 minutes long I think and were pretty entertaining from what I remember.
The three that I can think of off the top of my head were:
Primitive Pete… a shop safety video about a not-so-bright cave man constantly getting injured on shop tools
One about aliens watching our planet and coming to the conclusion that the Earth is inhabited by Cars and trucks and that humans are merely parasites on the vehicles.
and lastly one called “Berfunkle”… about a king who screams “Berfunkle!” at his subjects who have no idea what it means. They bring him every manner of thing that they think berfunkle means and the king just keeps getting madder and madder… Screaming “Berfunkle!” louder each time…
I would love to find these videos somewhere on DVD… I`ve looked online with no real luck. Anyone have any ideas or resources.. Thanks

Berfunkle:

That is a site for renting the film to classrooms, but there is some information about it. More information, but alas, no copies, is available here:

As far as I can tell I’ve traced it to AIMS Media, but while AIMS Multimedia is now Discovery Education, there is no trace of it on Discovery Educateion.
Primitive Pete the book:

Disney keeps a tight leash on the secondary markets for their films, and The ABCs of Hand Tools, featuring Primitive Pete is a Disney movie. You might sniff around Disney or ask them directly if they are selling it to people.
Sorry. I don’t know the one about aliens or where to find them.

Daniel asks…
Technology… Good or bad?
“They” say that the world is becoming even more connected than it ever has before.
I say if anything we are moving farther away from each other.Even if modern medicine extends our lives. Even though we (the entire human race)are now comparable to a parasite or a swarm of locusts, we are still able to avoid face to face conversing. Business meetings, birthdays (replaced by facebook), what used to be a great phone conversation has now turned into a text full of slang, that leaves people wondering about the tone of the text, or what omg or btw means. Technology in itself is giving us an excuse to hide indoors. Indoor water pieces, exercise equipment, virtual tennis, bowling ping pong… you name it. Let’s sit around a damned TV and frantically wave our arms at it. Society is increasingly becoming lazier and obese. “They” try to blame it on fast-food and calories, but the reality is we do not burn as many as we used to. McDonald’s has a machine that pours the soda for employees, we rent movies form the computer instead of walking down to the ma and pa video store, or wait, are any of those still open? Not if Blockbuster is filing for bankruptcy. I can sit here and list my growing anger of this dire situation. But, I want your opinion.
Technology,… pick a side. Good or Bad?

Ellen answers:
It is not a question that you can simply pick bad or good. It is not a black and white question.
GOOD:
- Saves lives
-People have more access to knowledge
- Saves time
- Creates time
- Brings enjoyment (arguementable)
- Always connected to others
BAD:
- People get lazier
- People who do not know how to use it, are at giant disadvantages. Can be bullied or manipulated
- Time consuming
-Expensive
- People lose social skills.
- People get dumber- less common sense (arguementable).
-Advertising manipulates people and it is everywhere nowadays.
- Criminal activities easier.
- Power of Google etc means they have a lot of control over whole economies etc.
It’s good as long as it does not become out of hand. It needs to be used responsibly.

Mandy asks…
Doesn’t Animal Planet’s new show “Monsters Inside Me” look good and haven’t there been similar shows?
Here’s the preview if you haven’t seen it:
http://animal.discovery.com/videos/animal-planet-screening-room/
I could have sworn I saw another special (maybe on Discovery?) on parasites getting into humans. I remember there was a fly that layed it’s larvae in this guy’s stomach (yes, it was gross) and another guy who was in a South American river and one of those lil’ creatures got into the most horrible place causing excruciating pain. I also saw a special on a British man who got thet worst form of Malaria while in Africa and nearly died. Does anyone know the names of the other shows/specials that I’m talking about? Thanks.

Ellen answers:
Yeah it looks good, but it makes you think about it a lot and really gets to you.
