Your Questions About Human Worms From Cats

Betty asks…
Do cats get worms from human milk?
like when they drink milk worms get in their stomach

Ellen answers:
I take it you mean dairy products like cow’s milk. No, not if it’s fresh anyway. Kittens can get worms from their mother if she’s infected, from eating fleas, mosquito bites, coming in contact with other cats feces to name a few but not from fresh clean milk.

Mary asks…
can my cats catch worms from eating human food?
I have a cat and she is addicted to eating what ever i eat! Like meat, bread and juices etc…please tell me what can happen if my baby doesn’t stop crying to eat theses foods i eat???

Ellen answers:
Yes they can.
And if they do get worms you need to take them to a vet.
They can make your cat loose so much weight and make them sick.
You probably need to put her in another room when you eat.

Nancy asks…
Can humans get worms from cats?
Our cat has worms for the first time. We are going to de-worm her tomorrow but I got a little paranoid wondering if she could give it to us. I haven’t done much research so don’t make fun of me.

Ellen answers:
It happened to us and the chances are there but highly doubtful. Wash everything and clean areas where she might of been laying. Wash your hands when handling her. Dont worry and ask the vet tomorrow just to be on the safe side..

Laura asks…

Ellen answers:
Yes, humans can get parasites like tapeworms from animals. You need to keep your child away from your cat until he is healthy again. If you have not yet taken your cat to the vet it is important that you do so or he may become seriously ill or even die.

James asks…
can humans get worms from cats?
we noticed a few days ago that my cat had a case of worms . They are the white kind that have sesame seed looking egg things and are flat. She got treated , but im worried that somehow we might have gotten them . I always wash my hand after changing the litter box and try to wash after petting her and the others as well , but can we still get them ?
if we can then how do we know and what do we take to get rid of them?

Ellen answers:
It was a tapeworm, they come out in segments and you’d need to swallow one of those segments to catch worms, so don’t worry, as long as you’ve washed your hands after cleaning the litter trays and after handling your cat, you are OK .If you haven’t already, you need to treat all your cats with worm medication from the vets, don’t buy it anywhere else, it doesn’t work.If you do this every 3 months your cats will stay worm free. You also need to treat your cats with flea prevention from the vets as fleas carry worm eggs and that reinfests cats.
If you feel uneasy you can get medication for yourself and your family from a chemists, it’s nothing to be ashamed of and not your fault.
But honestly, I’d put it out of my mind if I was you once your cats are treated, I worked 40 years for vets and never heard of one single person catching worms from their pets.
